INTERGALACTIC • Alexander K. Silva • Opening Thursday March 3, 7PM

“Intergalactic” is a combination of photography, sculpture, video, installation, and text based art. The visual inspiration for the work is derived from the mid-20th century notions of space exploration, such as explored in Barbarella and 2011: A Space Odyssey. These romantic notions of what the future looks like play a large role in creating the cinematography narrative for “Intergalactic.” An ever-revolving theme of my work--the narrative centers around exploration of personal and communal identity and self discovery.

Artist Statement:

Over the past decade, art has moved from being a hobby, to a passion, to a
feeling, to my entire existence. Even before I set up my camera, the colors
and details captivate me--filling my mind and spirit. People who've seen me
work can attest to this transplantation into an alternate time and space,
where my primal thoughts become the imaginative dreams of my viewers.
Always searching for a catalyst for social discussion, my work often
captures both sincere and severe feelings amongst viewers, combining
artistic elements kitsch, porn, and commercial art without judgement or
explanation.

“Intergalactic” is a combination of photography, sculpture, video,
installation, and text based art. The visual inspiration for the work is
derived from the mid-20th century notions of space exploration, such as
explored in Barbarella and 2011: A Space Odyssey. These romantic notions of

narrative for “Intergalactic.” An ever-revolving theme of my work--the
narrative centers around exploration of personal and communal identity and
self discovery.

The renowned astronomer Carl Sagan famously stated in 1980 that “the cosmos
is all there is, or ever was, or ever will be.” This series,
“Intergalactic,” goes one step further to show that the cosmos is also
within us--we are made of stars. This work is a journey through the cosmos:
the story of our own galaxy, and the stars and planets we share it with. On
the ship of imagination, we will explore the cosmos. This ship, perfect as
a snowflake and light as a feather, will take us through the worlds of our
dreams. Come with me and blast off into “Intergalactic.”
